Ed, can you please tell us who we are targeting for CB?

Spurs23

{Ed002's Note - Something like this:
Clement Lenglet (CB) Another player Barcelona are keen to move on. Very patchy and inconsistent season. Value is falling away and they will move him on as soon as they can. Spurs see him as an upgrade to what they have and something may be possible. Newcastle, Roma and Everton may provide option. Wildcard would be Sevilla as a part exchange. I would keep an eye on him.
Alessandro Bastoni (CB) First choice for Barcelona, but Inter don't want to sell although €70M might be enough for Inter to part with him as they look to cut the wage bill. Bayern Munich have a declared interest and see him has an option to others as they look to add two CBs, but they know the player wants to stay in Milan. Real Madrid are keen but he is not top of their list. Spurs certainly offer an option whilst Conte and Paratici are at the club. Chelsea and Manchester United have watched him but have preferred targets. Will stay where he is for next season.
Roger Ibanez (CB) Roma purchased the player on June 30 last year at the end of his loan with the intent of selling him on - Leicester, Spurs and Porto were keen on taking the player then but nothing happened. Spurs and Roma were still discussing options and Newcastle are looking to add him. Mr Mourinho would like to keep him. A maybe.
Josko Gvardiol (CB) Opted to join RBL to replace Konate over Leeds last summer. Leeds and Newcastle have asked after him. Will not be for sale and says he wants to stay for now. My understanding is that there has not been an approach from Chelsea but he has been watched by scouts and he is on the lengthy list of CBs they will consider. Spurs and Marseille have also sent scouts to watch the player.
Sven Botman (CB) Milan and Newcastle keen and have declared and interest. Will be available and many PL clubs have been scouting Lille including West Ham who were told they would not discuss Botman. Emerging as first choice CB for Newcastle but it seems unlikely unless the player can be convinced of their project. Asking price will look to force teams to turn away. Milan were in discussions to take both Botman and Sanches from Lille but have stepped back. Agent says there have been discussions with Manchester United and Spurs as well and he expects interest from PSG and Chelsea. Newcastle will press as they continue to struggle to attract players. Will offer the player a very good deal hoping his signing paves the way for others.
Gleison Bremer (CB) Carlo Ancelotti tried to take him to Napoli and also Everton. He could try again as an "affordable" option for Real Madrid, although Torino's valuation is significant. Spurs and Milan provide good options as Spurs look to upgrade on the CBs they have and Milan fear losing Alessio Romagnoli as a Free Agent. Again, he is of interest to Inter Milan who fear losing Alessandro Bastoni in the summer and they offer perhaps the most attractive solution. Previously of interest to Leicester and Liverpool, but both opted for others. Juventus have him on a list of options should they lose de LIgt in the summer but there are certainly a couple ahead of him. Chelsea have a pressing need to add CBs with players out of contract in the summer and he is on their whittled down list which currently sits at 10. Torino will look to a new contract to end thoughts of a move but that has not stopped clubs scouting him as they expect him to be available in the summer as he has so far refused a new contract. Bayern Munich have held discussions with Torino. Expectation is that he will move to Inter.
Nikola Milenkovic (CB) Milan and Spurs have an interest in NM but Milan will need to sell to raise funds and that may be a problem. Juventus offer an option. Something could be done with Spurs but he is not their first choice. Seems unlikely.
Min Jae Kim (CB) lost out on a transfer to Spurs due to Work Permit issues previously and an approach from Napoli was rejected. Porto, Sevilla and again Napoli do both have a declared interest. May suit Everton if they can get a Work Permit. I would expect Spurs interest to have gone.
Stefan de Vrij (CB) Inter value the player at €45M and as close to 30 finding a buyer at that price will be impossible. Halve the price and Paratrici may well provide an option at Spurs but he is not first choice. Probably stay where he is with Skriniar departing.
Alessio Romagnoli (CB) Milan want a new contract but they are at odds with the player and Team Riaola over the package and a termination clause. Could give way to assure other contracts are agreed. He will have options but the interest of Barcelona has gone, as has the interest of Juventus. If he is available as a Free Agent then interest of Spurs, Fulham and Lazio may be of interest – but all would be a step down. Common sense is sign a new contract at Inter.
Reece Oxford (CB) Spurs have been scouting their ex-kiddie who is at Augsburg. Won’t happen.}

Ed, will Spurs look for more midfield options even after adding Bissouma?

Spurs23

{Ed002's Note - Yes, with three certainly leaving - and just possibly a fourth - and effectively two added already, I would expect one more.}

1.) 19 Jun 2022 19:27:05
Conte seems to be getting players he wants in pretty soon.

19 May 2022 03:47:24
Hi Ed, can you please tell us who Spurs are looking to bring in this summer?

Spurs23

{Ed002's Note - I am not providing any long lists any longer.}

1.) 21 May 2022 05:55:42
Ahh well, I understand. Those were incredibly comprehensive. Thanks Ed! Good time to thank all Eds for their incredible work!

2.) 23 May 2022 22:09:56
With CL secured it’s safe to assume we will be linked with everyone in the media.

3.) 28 May 2022 16:30:18
Our best signing will be Conte.

Hi Ed, can you tell us about Spurs' plans for the winter window?

Spurs23

{Ed002's Note - Clubs do not usually plan for January sales so buying in January can be expensive and clubs may not get the players they want. As such it is difficult to say which of the targets might be available in January. I suspect de Vrij would be available "at the right price".}

1.) 04 Dec 2021 12:26:55
Thanks Ed!

19 Sep 2020 08:24:46
Ed can you please shed some light on Spurs' defender hunt?

Spurs23

{Ed002's Note - Spurs have signed a GK, RB and LB already. If Juan Hoyth and Cameron Carter-Vickers were to leave then JM could add a replacement with Ruben Dias or Kurt Zouma still very much the preferred options. Ben Godfrey was of interest but clubs don't see the value at the asking price. Robin Koch and Nathan Ake were of interest but moved elsewhere. You can scratch Djene Dakonam and Benoit Badiashile from the list.}

1.) 19 Sep 2020 10:51:58
Kalidou Koulibaly can be scratched as well.

2.) 19 Sep 2020 17:25:18
What about Kim min Jae Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Missed out off the lister were:
Milan Skriniar (CB) Spurs are very keen but it won't happen.
Kim Min-jae (CB) RBL have been in discussions over the South Korean and PSV are waiting in the wings if the discussions do not lead to a transfer. Lazio and Porto have notified his representatives that they are interested in the player as well. The player wants to join and English side and has said his preference would be Spurs who his agent is talking to and might find interest as he is cheaper than Zouma. The less attractive Watford, Everton and Southampton are the only sides to show a general interest. Southampton can likely be discounted and Everton have other priorities and know a Work Permit could be a problem in England. Watford can also be discounted. Bejing Guoan want to keep him. Possible.

What's your view of Joe Rodon Ed?

Spurs23

{Ed002's Note - Average/cover.}

1.) 04 Aug 2021 12:12:25
Poor player playing in a league above himself along with Ben Davies, I got better defenders down at the dog and gun mate.

2.) 05 Aug 2021 09:13:43
Ah well. Thanks Ed.

Ed doesn't the No.2 have some influence in the style played? I expected some change from his united experience (hope kills you sometimes) when Sacramento was got in. I guess it would also depend on what exactly the role is, but still.

Spurs23

{Ed001's Note - it really does depend on what role the man in charge has. Mourinho is head coach, he sets the style. The number 2 is just there to assist him in getting the players to play his style.}

1.) 11 Jul 2020 04:48:01
Is the job of the No.2 only limited to implementation typically? Or also setting the style to some extent?

{Ed001's Note - it depends on the man above him. If you have an old school manager, then they usually have too many other things to do, Ferguson's team developed different styles of play at United because his number 2 changed, for example. Fergie is very much an old school manager who would be in the office far more than on the training pitch. Harry Redknapp is another example of that (unless there are TV cameras around of course!), paperwork, scouting reports, watching footage of players or opponents etc takes up a lot of time.

Jose is in between two stools really, he is a head coach but he does take on a little of the kind of work old school managers do as well. However, he is not one to give his staff much leeway with the style of play. Jose sets out a style that the team is to implement. I think his problem is that so many people turned against him in recent years, particularly when in Spain where he was hated with a fervent passion by so many in the media, that he is becoming intransigent in his desire to prove them wrong.

I believe he has become so focused on what people say about him and proving he knows better, that he has forgotten what brought him success. It was not about his style of play, it was his man-management, his flexibility as a manager to deal with players as individuals and bring them together playing for him. Players loved him and gave everything for him, that gave him an edge over many, especially when added to having better players and his 'bending' of the rules to give his team as many advantages as possible.

He is just no longer ahead of the game, it has caught him up and overtaken him. Sadly he has not adapted to the changing game and is looking like another Wenger. A great of his time, but now just another dinosaur trying to live off past glories.}

2.) 11 Jul 2020 12:48:55
Thanks Ed. Loved that bit of insight. It’s funny how quickly the game changes. I guess that’s what the top level is where even the best can fall behind so quick.

{Ed001's Note - it doesn't help that as we get older we do tend to become more risk averse as a species. Trying new things is a risk. We tend to just grow used to doing things a certain way and, especially if it has brought us success, we stick with it. When you have had the kind of success Jose has enjoyed, it must be virtually impossible to change the way you do things. You would be afraid to lose what actually worked.}

3.) 11 Jul 2020 17:43:31
Well said Ed 001.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate.}
