Mourinho dropped Ashley Cole one of the best full backs the PL has ever seen because he was too attacking, he wanted his creative players up field where they do more damage rather than tracking back, we need defenders who enjoy the art of defending, Rose was caught up field out of position so many times last season it was beyond a joke. Keep the defence a solid unit with one holding midfielder infront until the game is won Rose has the ability and speed to play a more defensive game and with Vertonghen as a make shift left back just incase of injury Davies although a good player would not be needed and 10m could be spent on a forward who is needed as Kane is not going to put the fear of god into defenders is he

Davies apparently in Seattle having a medical.

Ou812 you must have been watching Real Madrid in White and confusing them with Spurs. Our LB has been a problem for years, even Bale struggled and was clearly a much better midfielder.

Rose is terrible at defending and his positional awareness and inability to read the game is frightening. Naughton is useless at LB and needs to be given his chances deputising to Walker on the other side, and Vertonghen is clearly a world class CB and doesn't want to play in that LB position. If you had mentioned Fryers I would have given you a little more support, but even he looked average tonight on the artificial pitch.

Ben Davies is definitely an upgrade but I can't help to think he is expensive compared to more proven players like Blind. Certain to improve and seems strong enough and quick enough.

Although we are more than likely going to Huey Ben Davies, why would he have a medical in Seatle? Doesn't make any sense! Maybe pass the medical then join up but if the rumour about M.Vorm is true I will be very happy as quite a while ago I said I would like him or k.schmeical to join!

Not so bothered about mister Davies but always happy to be proved wrong!

5.) 20 Jul 2014
Davies - a proven PL defender for 10m or Blind for 20m when we still have 6 players to figure out if they were worth it. Davies looks like value to me.

6.) 20 Jul 2014
The fact that both clubs are in the USA and We are in Seattle why is that so difficult to comprehend?

7.) 20 Jul 2014
Agreed Yellow-Card I believe for a 21yr old player to have 2 seasons 1st team experience including playing in the Europa League.

Regarding Blind he looked good at the WC and I've heard he was good for Ajax. Howevre I feel players who have exp playing in the premiership would be more beneficial because it will help the team integrate more quickly and that would hopefully translate into a positive start to the season. Rather than a team trying to get a rhythm together and adapt to the riggers of the PL.

At the end of the day, facts are facts and that is Rose isn't good enough! He can't defend to save his life and along with Daws, cost us a lot last year . As so many supporters on this site have said, this position has needed sorting for years . And if we keep playing Vert at left back then we will loose him . It doesn't matter who you have in the middle or up front, if we don't defend then its a waste of time . I keep hearing Blind is this and Blind is that, maybe he is, but three things, we can't afford him, he won't come to us and levy won't buy him! Davies has had two good seasons in the PL, isn't too expensive and is ten times better than anything we have!

9.) 20 Jul 2014
Danny Rose was an unmitigated disaster at LB last season so I welcome Davies signing. We needed a specialist in that position. I can't stand defenders that can't defend, I mean what's the f**king point. Out defense last year was unbelievably poor, the Kaboul injury and the constant rotating of players didn't help.

Agree Davo,he looks a very promising player and a reasonable price when compared to Luke Shaw.If Siggy is part of the deal then I would assume our net spend would only be a couple of million.

11.) 20 Jul 2014
Yellow card! Nothing difficult to comprehend you condescending fool, just didn't know Swansea were in America also Read the post properly before slating ppl.

As for Ben Davies yes he has had two seasons in the prem and looks good value but people have a right to prefer other players and IMO I would prefer D.Blind.

As for not being able to afford him (Blind) we have the money and the players at Ajax and on a similar wage structure to Spurs, maybe a bit less so there is always a chance. The true fact is probably CL teams are talking about him and that may be his preferred option.

12.) 20 Jul 2014
If we were a little more settled with our lineup I'd happily take Blind and the risk of him taking time to settle. But I think we need players proven to play in PL to help last summers signings settle - a team full of individuals (at our price point) that have little PL experience probably isn't going to work.

And our back line was shaky at best against Seattle, especially in the first half - I hate to think what the top 4 or 5 in the PL will do to it . and in theory we had our backup back 4 - Naughton, Dawson, Fryers and Rose playing.

13.) 20 Jul 2014
In all honesty, our LB situation is so dire, why can't we try for them both! Would be great competition!

The point about B.Davies being proven in the PL over D.Blind is a fair one and they both offer different qualities. Davies being more defence minded but the games where we can really put teams to the sword, Blind would be the better attacking option with the quality to defend also!

What do any of you people actually know about Blind? Maybe apart from 7 World Cup games. You all talk as if he is an unbelievable full back, when in reality his preferred and most successfull position is holding midfield but van gaal prefers de Jong in that position in the national squad because of his back 3 set up. Maybe try watching some real life football rather than just posting il informed comments

15.) 20 Jul 2014
As much as I hate to admit it Oracle did describe Blind as such a week or 2 back when the Davies vs Blind discussion first started.

Doesn't matter who comes in we need a defensive leader Dawson while never the best CB was vocal and organised the back line but his own game has gone down hill and he should not be 1st team, Vert and Chiriches look good but can they step up to marshalling the defence along the lines of Terry and Kompany do, Kaboul was a huge disappointment at the end of last season he's an experienced pro but was shocking when our defence needed leadership
